The Different Types of Carbon Hood

There are a number of different types of carbon hood on the market, they vary immensely in terms of quality, materials, constuction and finish.

Broadly speaking there are two types of Carbon Hoods, those made of wet carbon and those made of dry carbon. The vast majority of aftermarket carbon parts are made from wet carbon. The advavntage to wet carbon is that it is even lighter and stronger, unfortunately though it is significantly more expensive.

In terms of hood contruction there are two main components, the webbing and the skin. The skin (or shell) is the outer part which you see when the hood is down and the webbing is the part underneath which provides rigidity and strength. Depending on what type of carbon hood you have wither one or both of these components may be made out of carbon. Often many manufacturers retain the factory steel webbing and simply replace the outer skin with carbon, whereas others replace the entire unit. Make sure you know which type you are getting because as you would assume there are a considerably weight difference between the two. Also check your local regulations if you are concerned, some areas may legally require you to use factory webbing.
